Nail files are among the most important and frequently used manicure instruments. They are available in various designs, materials, sizes and shapes. The tips are mostly shaped as nail cleaners; the plastic handles very often have an integrated cuticle pusher.
The file should be moved at a slight angle and in one direction only along the nail. The coarse side shapes, the fine side smoothens.
The basic material of a sapphire-coated nail file is a hardened steel file blade which is coated with sharp-edged corundum grains or similar grinding material. The two file sides may have different filing surfaces – coarse and fine. The edges of a quality nail file are smooth.
Ceramic files are made of grainy ceramic material and are long-lasting. They deliver an exceptionally smooth filing result. A ceramic file seals and polishes the nail.
